$3 Million Awarded To Hempstead For Creation Of 336 Apartments
The funds will also go toward demolishing an abandoned parking structure in the village, the governor's office announced.
HEMPSTEAD, NY — As part of a state initiative to encourage community revitalization, the Village of Hempstead was awarded $3 million to support the demolition of an abandoned and underutilized parking structure.
The removal of the 379,000-square-foot building includes redevelopment of the property. Gov. Hochul's office announced the creation of 336 market-rate apartments and a replacement parking structure.
The project is expected to spur economic activity in downtown Hempstead, south of Jackson Street.

"Revitalizing and rehabilitating vacant and blighted areas of our communities brings new energy and investments that support local and regional growth," Hochul said.
