Democrats Pick Ex-NYPD Officer As Hempstead Supervisor Candidate
Joe Scianabo is also a U.S. Marine veteran who saw combat duty in Iraq.

GARDEN CITY, NY — With Republican incumbent Don Clavin skipping another reelection bid for Hempstead Supervisor, the Democrats have chosen their nominee.
Joseph Scianabo, a former NYPD officer and U.S. Marine combat veteran, will be in the ballot this fall.
“Joe Scianablo is exactly the kind of leader Hempstead needs right now,” said Nassau Democratic Chairman Jay Jacobs. “His courage, character, and deep commitment to public service make him the right candidate to take on the status quo."

Earlier this week, Justin Brown had dropped out of accepting the nomination for second straight time. It comes after the surprise announcement from Clavin that he wouldn't seek his fourth term. Instead, he'll run for Nassau County Court.
The Nassau Republicans have to name their selection by Friday.

As for Scianabo, after leaving the police department he earned his law degree and dedicated his career to justice and public safety.
“I’ve never backed down from a fight—and I won’t back down from the fight for the people of Hempstead,” said Scianablo. “This town deserves a leader who shows up, stands tall, and delivers real results. That’s exactly what I intend to do.”
