Drunken Driving In Nassau With 4-Year-Old In Car: Police

WESTBURY, NY — A Westbury man was arrested and charged just after midnight Friday with driving while intoxicated as a young child was in the vehicle, police said.

Doroteo Morales Rodriguez, 43, faces multiple charges including aggravated driving while intoxicated (Leandra’s Law).

Rodriguez's red 2012 Dodge Ram had committed multiple traffic infractions, and police conducted a traffic stop on Stewart Avenue near the intersection of Grand Boulevard.

Rodriguez had a slurred speech, watery eyes, an odor of alcohol coming from his breath and he was unsteady on his feet, police said.

A sobriety test yielded positive results, authorities said.

A four-year-old passenger was released into the custody of a family friend, police said.

No one was injured.

Along with the Leandra's Law charge, Rodriguez faces a count of endangering the welfare of a child and two counts of driving while intoxicated. He was due to be arraigned on Friday at District Court in Hempstead.
