Fire At Nassau Masonic Lodge Deemed Arson: Police

Police say a fire was set in the doorway of Doric Lodge No. 53 in Hempstead early Thursday morning.

HEMPSTEAD, NY — A fire in the front door of a Masonic lodge in Hempstead is being investigated as arson, according to Nassau County police.

Police say the call for the fire came in at 4:10 a.m. at 95 Westbury Blvd. in Hempstead, which is the home of the Doric Lodge No. 53, a Free Mason lodge. There was one person in the building at the time, who managed to get out safely before first responders arrived.

The Hempstead Fire Department responded to the scene and got the blaze under control.

After the fire was put out, the Nassau County Fire Marshal, police Arson Bomb Squad and police Crime Scene Squad all began to investigate. Police say a person of interest was seen in the vicinity of the lodge at the time of the fire.

Police are asking anyone with information about this arson to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS, or call 911. All callers will remain anonymous.
