Killer Of Woman Found Near Dumpster Arrested: Nassau Police
Police say the 25-year-old man murdered Rebecca Carlson and left her body near a dumpster in South Hempstead.

SOUTH HEMPSTEAD, NY — An Elmont man has been charged with the murder of a woman whose body was found by a dumpster in South Hempstead on Feb. 14.
Andrew D. Avila, 25, of Elmont, was arrested in connection with the murder of 39-year-old Rebecca Carlson, of Hempstead, police said.
Police received a call at 7:40 a.m. on Feb. 14 for a woman lying on the ground next to a dumpster in the back of Advanced Auto Parts, located at 1140 Grand Ave. in South Hempstead. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and later identified as Carlson. Her death was ruled a homicide by the Nassau County Medical Examiner.

Avila was arrested on March 2. He has been charged with second-degree murder. He is scheduled to be arraigned later today in First District Court in Hempstead.
