LI's ERASE Racism To Honor Civil Rights Legend Hazel Dukes

GARDEN CITY, NY — Civil rights legend Hazel Dukes is getting honored at a special event next month in Garden City.

Long Island's ERASE Racism is hosting the gala called "Shine a Light: Illuminating Paths to Equity" on June 5 at the Garden City Hotel.

Dukes, a legendary figure in New York's civil rights movement, will receive the ERASE Racism Lifetime Achievement Award for her enduring, lifelong commitment to racial justice throughout the U.S., ERASE Racism said in a statement.

Dukes, the longstanding president of the NAACP's New York State Conference, earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Adelphi University.

The night will also feature the Corporate Leadership Award to Harmony Healthcare Long Island. The nonprofit, which has six Nassau County locations, is being praised for providing affordable, quality health services to everyone, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.
