Loaded Gun, Crack Cocaine Found During Nassau Traffic Stop: Police

The men, one from Suffolk County and the other from North Carolina, were pulled over on Tuesday evening, police said.

UNIONDALE, NY — A loaded handgun and a substance, believed to be crack cocaine, were discovered during a traffic spot in Hempstead on Tuesday night, police said.

Officers observed a 2017 Chevrolet SUV traveling southbound on Nassau Road near the intersection Stanton Boulevard in Uniondale, commit a vehicle and traffic law infraction, police said.

Once the SUV was pulled over, an investigation yielded a loaded 9mm firearm inside the vehicle, police said.

Both men were placed under arrest with incident.

Lee Hughes, 51, of Huntington Station, is charged second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of three-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, aggravated unlicensed operation and vehicle and traffic law violations, police said.

Richard Foreman, 38, of North Carolina, is charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

Both men were scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
