Man Charged With Trespassing At Multiple Homes: Garden City PD

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending July 20.

July 14

  • Upon investigation of an erratic driver on Clinton Road and St. James Street North, officers arrested a 28-year-old woman for DWI and unsafe lane usage. The DWI was a felony charge due to a prior conviction.
  • Officers and firefighters responded to New Hyde Park Road for a fallen power line, local power outages and traffic light malfunctions. The area was safeguarded until PSEG arrived.
  • Officers and firefighters responded to a residence for a fire alarm. Upon investigation it was determined the alarm was activated by ongoing construction.
  • Officers responded to a railroad gate malfunction at the Nassau Boulevard crossing.
  • A driver was charged with driving on Stewart Avenue with a suspended license and a non-transparent windshield.

July 15

  • Officers arrested a 58-year-old man on Franklin Avenue for a Nassau County larceny warrant.
  • Garden City detectives arrested a 32-year-old man for cashing a $4,800 check against a resident’s bank account.
  • Upon investigation of a two-vehicle crash on Hilton Avenue at 3rd Street, one of the drivers, a 40-year-old woman, was arrested for DWI.

July 16

  • A driver was charged with driving in the vicinity of the high school with a suspended license and excessive speed. Another driver was charged with driving on Clinton Road with a suspended registration and excessive speed.
  • An unattended bicycle was reported stolen from 7th Street.
  • An unlicensed driver was charged with passing a stop sign on Hilton Avenue.
  • As a result of a PSEG power grid issue, officers responded to multiple traffic light outages on Clinton Road.

July 17

  • A man was seen on a video surveillance camera stealing packages from a Pine Street porch at 5:55 a.m.
  • Upon investigation of a two-vehicle crash on Cathedral Avenue and 1st Street, one of the drivers was charged with driving with suspended license privileges and unlicensed operation.
  • As a result of an investigation in Parking Field 7S, a driver was charged with leaving the scene after striking a parked vehicle which was then pushed into a brick wall. The wall and the parked vehicle were both damaged.

July 18

  • Officers responded to 1st Street for a report of a suspicious person in a residential yard. Upon a search of the area, the subject, a 56-year-old man, was apprehend on Sunset Lane and charged with criminal trespassing. Upon further investigation, he was charged with three prior residential trespass offenses that occurred in June on 2nd Street, Cathedral Avenue, and Hilton Avenue.

July 19

  • Someone reportedly stole a resident’s identity to open a bank account and then attempted to transfer money from his regular bank account to this new account.
  • Two unlicensed operators were charged with excessive speed on Clinton Road.
  • Garden City police and firefighters, and the Nassau County Police Department's Emergency Services Unit (ESU) responded to New Hyde Park Road and Stewart Avenue for a two-vehicle crash where one of the vehicles overturned. Firefighters and ESU officers rescued the two occupants from the overturned vehicle, and they, along with the other driver, were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.

July 20

  • Police investigated the illegal dumping of yard debris in the rear of Parking Field 5.
  • As a result of a joint investigation by Garden City police and Nassau County Probation, a 39-year-old driver was charged with driving on Old Country Road with eight driver license suspensions including a suspension for illegal drug possession.
  • As a result of a traffic investigation on Stewart Avenue at Tullamore Road, a driver was charged with excessive speed, unlicensed operation, and improper exhaust system.
