Mangano Ordered To Pay More Than $10 Million In Restitution: Report

A federal judge set up a payment plan for Mangano, who will fork up 10 percent of his monthly income when he gets out of prison.

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — In addition to his 12-year prison sentence, a federal judge has ordered former Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano to pay more than $10 million in restitution.

As part of the bribery scheme for which he was convicted, Mangano pressured the Town of Oyster Bay into backing $20 million in loans for restaurateur Harendra Singh, who was bribing the Manganos. Now, a judge says that Mangano has to pay back $10.6 million to two insurance companies that had to pay out after the town defaulted on the loans, according to Newsday.

Newsday reported that U.S. District Judge Joan M. Azrack ordered that Mangano will have to pay $25 ever three months while he is in prison. Following his release, he will have to pay 10 percent of his gross monthly income.

Mangano was supposed to begin his prison sentence on Wednesday, but the start date was pushed back to July 27 by Azarack, who is currently deciding on a request by Mangano to allow him to remain free on bail while he appeals his conviction.

Mangano's wife, Linda, was convicted of lying to the FBI about a no-show job she had. She was sentenced to 15 months in prison, and is also supposed to start her sentence on July 27.
