Nassau County Vaccination Rate Among Best In Country

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — Nassau County Executive Laura Curran is touting the county's vaccination efforts, which has been one of the most successful in the country. Nassau has the highest adult vaccination rate among large counties in New York state, and one of the best in the country.

According to data from the state, 82 percent of adults in Nassau have now received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine. The only county in New York with a higher vaccination rate is Schenectady County, which is at 82.1 percent.

In addition, Nassau ranks fourth in vaccinations for adults across the country in counties with populations of 1 million or more. Nassau comes in just behind King County, Washington; Middlesex County, Massachusetts; and Almeda County, California.

“I'm proud that Nassau County has one of the highest vaccination rates in the United States, and we are committed to protecting our progress and building on it. The vaccine is saving lives everyday," Curran said. "This virus hasn’t disappeared, and as more infectious variants like delta continue to spread, getting vaccinated is more important than ever. ”

The push to get people vaccinated has increased as the delta variant of the coronavirus is continue to spread, almost entirely among the unvaccinated population. Now colleges, hospitals and governments are beginning to require vaccinations.

To help get shots in the arms of the most vulnerable, the county established a way for veterans, seniors and homebound residents to make appointments. Veterans re able to make appointments through the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency by calling 516-572-6565. The senior/homebound population can make an appointment by calling 516-227-9590.
