Nationwide, 79.7 percent of adults have received at least one vaccine dose. Nassau has the second-highest vaccination rate among large counties in the country, according to data from the CDC. “I’m proud that Nassau County has led the way in vaccinations since Day 1, and we are committed to keeping up our momentum," said Nassau County Executive Laura Curran. "Our high vaccination rate is saving lives and helping spur a strong economic recovery. By increasing vaccination rates among residents 12-17, Nassau will stay ahead of the virus and keep our communities safe.”

With nearly all adults now inoculated, Curran said the county is turning its sights to vaccinated eligible children. With children 12-17 now able to get the shot, the county is working with the state on its #VaxToSchool program to incentive kids to get the vaccine. Kids who get vaccinated at participating events can get gift cards for Amazon, movie theaters and more.
Upcoming #VaxToSchool events will be held Oct. 28 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Kennedy Park in Hempstead and Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 1 Marcus Avenue, New Hyde Park.
“Nassau County’s exceptionally high vaccination rate is a prime example of public health at its finest; community partners, healthcare providers, business owners, and the general public working together to make their community a safer and healthier place. That is undoubtedly something to be proud of,” said Nassau County Commissioner of Health Dr. Lawrence Eisenstein.
