Nassau Woman Hit Cop With Her Car, Drove With Him Clutching Hood: PD

UNIONDALE, NY — A Nassau County woman was arrested Sunday after police say she struck an officer with her car while trying to flee an arrest, and drove with him clutching her hood.

According to police, two women left Macy's at the Roosevelt Field Mall at 1 p.m. Sunday after stealing merchandise from the store. Police say detectives were already on the scene, and immediately arrested Samantha Signorelli, 32, of Freeport, and Michele Brown, 25, of Baldwin.

While investigating, police say the detectives saw a third woman in a 2019 Volkswagen, waiting for the other two. A detective tried to stop the car, and police say the driver — Amber Johnson, 36, of North Bellmore — hit him, then continued to drive with the detective on the hood of her car.

The detective was thrown from the hood when Johnson struck a parked car, police said, and then she fled the scene. She was located a short time later and arrested.

Police said the detective was not injured.

Signorelli is charged with fourth-degree grand larceny. She also had open warrants for seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Brown is charged with petty larceny. She also had open warrants for third- and fourth-degree grand larceny, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and petty larceny.

Johnson is charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree attempted assault, fifth-degree conspiracy, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and leaving the scene of an accident.

All three are scheduled to be arraigned later today in First District Court in Hempstead.
