UNIONDALE, NY — After being closed for more than two years due to the COVID pandemic, Nunley's Carousel will finally reopen to the public this week.

The carousel was first built in 1912 by Stein and Goldstein Artistic Carousell Co. of Brooklyn. It was originally installed in Galden City Park in Canarsie, where it was know as Murphy's carousel.

In the spring of 1940, the carousel was moved to Baldwin and reopened as Nunley's Carousel. Nunley's closed in 1995, and the property was purchased by Nassau County. The carousel was moved again in 2009 to its current home on Museum Row in Uniondale. It has also been restored to how it originally looked.

Nunley's Carousel has 41 horses, one lion and two chariots that can be ridden.

The carousel, like so many other things, was forced to close in the early days of the pandemic. However, it never reopened. Now being managed by the Long Island Children's Museum (which is right next door), the carousel has new hours.
