#VaxToSchool Program Comes To Nassau County
Children 12-17 who get the COVID vaccine at the events can get gift cards and other incentives.

HEMPSTEAD, NY — Nassau County Executive Laura Curran is bringing the governor's #VaxToSchool initiative to the county. Students ages 12 to 17 will be able to come to locations in Hempstead, New Hyde Park and Roosevelt to get vaccinated. If they do, they will receive gift cards for movie theaters and Amazon, as well as other incentives, after each shot.
The goal of the program is to get more young people vaccinated to further curb the spread of COVID-19, and to also make schools safer.
“Nassau County has been a model in COVID-19 vaccinations, leading the state and nation with getting shots into arms," Curran said. "While we have made historic progress, the vaccine is our pathway to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe and keep our county, including our schools and businesses, open. That is why we are joining New York State in its #VaxToSchool program to continue encouraging eligible young people to roll up their sleeves with special incentives at these upcoming pop-up events. Thank you to New York State and Northwell Health for joining us in this important initiative.”

According to state data, Nassau has one of the highest adult vaccination rates in the state, and the country. Data shows that 94 percent of adults have received at least one dose of a vaccine. And nearly 80 percent of the total population has gotten at least one shot. Getting that number higher will mean fewer cases and less spread of the virus.
The #VaxToSchool will be held on Thursdays, Oct. 14, 21 and 28 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Kennedy Park, located on Greenwich Street in Hempstead, and on Saturdays, Oct. 16, 23 and 30 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 1 Marcus Ave. in New Hyde Park. Additionally, there will be a pop-up clinic at the Roosevelt Homecoming on Oct. 23 from 2 to 8 p.m. Shots of the Pfizer vaccine will be administered to all residents 12 and older who want to get the vaccine.
