18-Foot Long Island Wildlife Mural To Be Unveiled In Glen Cove
The mural, created by a Long Island artist, will be unveiled in celebration of Garvies Point Museum's 50th Anniversary.
An 18-foot by 3.5-foot mural created by a Long Island artist will be unveiled at the Garvies Point Museum in Glen Cove on Saturday, July 15.
The mural, which features pre-colonial Long Island wildlife, is being unveiled as part of Garvies Point Museum's 50th Anniversary.

The mural was created by Massapequa resident Michael Morgan. He graduated from Northwestern University in 2014 where he majored in Environmental Sciences and studied Studio Art. He is currently enrolled in Continuing Education classes at the New York Academy of Art.

According to Morgan, "[The] mural depicts exclusively animals and plants that existed on Long Island before the Colonial Era— no invasive species, no introduced species."
He created the mural by individually sketching each plant and animal, scanning the sketches to a computer and bringing the sketches to life in Adobe Illustrator. It took him one year to make the mural, which he created in conjunction with the director of Garvies Point Museum.

A canoe also sits next to the mural. Morgan says it is meant to "simulate how Long Island would look were someone to ride down a river in pre-colonial Long Island."
