Advisory Against Bathing Issued For Glen Cove-Area Beaches

Due to Tuesday's heavy rainfall, Nassau County has issued an advisory against bathing at four beaches, including several around Glen Cove.

GLEN COVE, NY — Tuesday's heavy rainfall has prompted Nassau County health officials to issue an advisory against bathing at four beaches, including several in the Glen Cove area. The advisory will be lifted at 7 a.m. on Thursday.

In an email, the county's health department said the "advisory is issued as a precautionary measure for beaches known to be impacted by stormwater runoff caused by heavy rainfall."

Officials say stormwater runoff can elevate bacteria levels in the water — making it potentially unsafe to bathe in. Some common bacteria include E. coli and fecal coliform.
