Age-Friendly Glen Cove Kicks Off Outdoor Season with “Walk with a Doc” on Liver Health
Age-Friendly Glen Cove launched its outdoor Walk with a Doc season with Dr. Barbara Keber's talk on liver health and guided community walk.
Glen Cove, NY — September 18, 2025 — It was a beautiful morning on the Garvies Point Esplanade as Age-Friendly Glen Cove launched its first planned outdoor Walk with a Doc of the season, featuring a timely Liver Health talk and guided walk with Dr. Barbara Keber of Glen Cove Hospital, Northwell Health.
Residents were fully engaged as Dr. Keber discussed the importance of liver wellness, including hepatitis and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), the new name for what was previously called fatty liver disease. She answered questions and connected these topics to everyday lifestyle habits that support long-term health.
Dr. Keber began Walk with a Doc in Glen Cove more than five years ago during COVID to help older adults stay active and feel less isolated. Early sessions focused on urgent topics like COVID and mental health; more recent talks have addressed current issues such as GLP-1 medications, with frequent updates to reflect the latest medical information.

Christine Rice, Executive Director of the Glen Cove Senior Center, was also in attendance, along with representatives from AARP New York.
