City: 'Recycling Scavengers' Are Disturbing Residents
Glen Cove residents urged to call police if they encounter someone rummaging through their recycling bins for bottles and cans.

Glen Cove officials say residents in some parts of the city are “being disturbed” by individuals rummaging through their recycling bins and removing bottles and cans, which can be redeemed for cash.
This activity is in violation of Glen Cove city code, according to Mayor Reginald Spinello, who adds that it has a negative impact on quality of life and is a matter of public safety.
Officials urge residents not to confront an individual sifting through their trash or recycling bins. Instead, call Glen Cove Police at 676-1000 and they will send an officer to handle the situation.
