College-Bound Student-Athlete Night in Glen Cove
High schoolers learn about playing a sport at the collegiate level.

The Glen Cove High School Athletic Department hosted a College Bound Student-Athlete workshop on Jan. 5 for students in grades 7-12 interested in playing a sport at the collegiate level.
Leading the panel discussion were Adelphi University Division II softball Coaches Bree Nasti and Ophir Sadeh and LIU women’s lacrosse Coach Meghan McNamara. Glen Cove High School Coach Chris Mac Donald, who played soccer and tennis at Mt. St. Vincent College, also participated in the panel along with Glen Cove High School senior Taylah Hudson, who signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Texas Southern University and junior Lindsay Dwyer, who has verbally committed to the University of Illinois for gymnastics.

As part of its discussion, the group presented a series of topics including the role of the student-athlete, parent and school in the college process. They also discussed recruiting, the college search, financial implications, the NCAA Clearinghouse and eligibility, and college-level competition.
