The Dix Hills resident was arrested in North Hills near Exit 37 early Friday morning.

A Dix Hills man driving the wrong direction on the Long Island Expressway in North Hills early Friday has been charged with driving while intoxicated, authorities said.

Nassau County Police say a highway patrol officer observed Vincent Messina, 25, driving a 2013 Smart car eastbound in the westbound lanes, causing other motorists to “take evasive action to avoid him” at 1:35 a.m.

Highway patrol pulled the car over at Exit 37. An investigation revealed Messina was intoxicated, police said.
