Tragedy In Glen Cove: Family Dog Dies, Residents Displaced In Blaze
A mother and her two young children were returning home from a walk when they saw flames coming from the rear, Glen Cove officials said.

GLEN COVE, NY — A fire tore through a two-family home in Glen Cove Tuesday, killing a dog and displacing eight residents, according to officials.
The fire at 42 Dickson St. was reported around 2 p.m.
Three of the residents — a mother and her two young children — were returning home from a walk when they saw smoke and flames coming from the rear, according to officials. The 31-year-old woman then banged on her neighbor's door to alert him about the fire.

Eleven fire departments assisted the Glen Cove Fire Department in putting out the blaze. Philip Grella, first assistant chief for the Glen Cove Fire Department, said the fire spread so fast because of high winds, and a section of the home collapsed. That was also what made it hard for crews to "make an interior push," he said.
Glen Cove Mayor Pamela Panzenbeck and Deputy Mayor Donna McNaughton have teamed up with the Red Cross to find temporary housing for the displaced residents.
