Dr. K's Motown Revue closed out the Downtown Sounds concert series with a performance that kept everyone hanging on.
Dr. K’s Motown Revue closed out the Downtown Sounds concert series with a performance that kept everyone hanging on. The concert had the biggest crowd of the season, with chairs set up down the side streets; although, of course, no one was sitting, as they were dancin’ in the street all night long.
Dr K’s Motown Revue is made up of seven talented musicians and five vocalists who have honed their skills to recreate the sound of Motown’s biggest stars. From the Four Tops to The Temptations, and the Supremes to Marvin Gaye, Junior Walker, Smokey Robinson, Gladys Knight, and Mary Wells, people were bopping along to all their favorite Motown hits.
Dr K’s Motown Revue has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including Lincoln Center, Central Park, Mohegan Sun, Jones Beach, African American Museum, and the United Nations.

The night began with a celebration honoring a pillar of Glen Cove, Lou-Ann Thompson. In 1985,Thompson answered an ad in the Pennysaver for a summer job at Glen Floors, and on Friday she was honored for her 40 years of dedicated service to the store. During her tenure, she’s risen up the ranks, proven her leadership skills and changed the face of Glen Floors by cultivating and nurturing strong relationships with designers, architects, vendors, and local business owners. As the store manager, she runs the company with the heart and passion of founder Fred Capobianco, whose legacy continues to guide her decisions. Thompson has served on the Board of Directors of the Downtown BID since 2017, currently serving as treasurer, and has championed safety improvements in the city as well as partnering to spearhead events such as the first annual New Year’s Eve Music Crawl and the Downtown Art Crawl. Speeches and citations were presented by Jill Nossa, executive director of the Glen Cove BID; Mayor Pam Panzenbeck; Assemblymember Charles Lavine; and Legislator Delia De-Riggi-Whitton.
Music brings people together and Glen Cove is all about harmony in the city. Families are able to come down to play games and princess, tigers and superheroes swarmed the town thanks to free face painting by Joanie Baloney. During the concert vendors set up tables to inform people about local businesses and hand out freebies. Restaurants stayed open so attendees could stop in for a bite, and people could even order takeout to the Downtown Sounds pickup point.

With all the fun and community downtown, there is no telling what could happen. 15 years ago during Downtown Sounds the band leader of Dr. K’s Motown Revue, Dr. K himself, Paul Korman, met a woman. Friday night after their performance Korman proposed and the two are now engaged.
2025’s Downtown Sounds ended on a high note for all!
Don’t worry, someday we’ll be together again; the Downtown Sounds concert series will return next year! Keep an eye out on the BID’s website and social media pages for other upcoming events: the Halloween Parade, the Holiday Festival, and many more!
