LI Officials Reject Eating Disorder Group Home Proposal
The residence at the proposed location would "substantially alter" the nature and character of the neighborhood, the mayor said.

The Glen Cove City Council unanimously voted on Tuesday to reject a proposal of a residence for women with eating disorders at 1 St. Andrews Lane.
Mayor Tim Tenke said there were already too many similar residential group homes in that particular area, which he says has “historical prominence.”
“The nature and character of the neighborhood would be substantially altered,” he said in a statement.

Officials suggested two alternative areas in the city they thought would be more suitable for the residence: 12 Walnut Road and 145 Dosoris Lane.
The City of Glen Cove has more than 13 residential group homes. Tenke said “Glen Cove is a warm welcoming community and that the alternative Glen Cove locations would provide the treatment center with comparable accommodations.”
