False Lockdown Alarm Creates Panic At Glen Cove HS, Teen Arrested: PD

A Glen Cove High School student was arrested after intentionally setting off the school's lockdown alarm, police said.

GLEN COVE, NY —A Long Island high school was put on lockdown Friday after a student intentionally activated the school's lockdown alarm, according to police.

It happened around 11:30 a.m. at Glen Cove High School.

Once the alarm was activated, the high school executed its lockdown procedures and immediately collaborated with Glen Cove police, a department spokesperson said. Following an investigation by members of the police department and the school, officials determined that the alarm was intentionally set off by a 15-year-old student.

The unidentified student was quickly identified and arrested at the scene, according to police. The teen has been charged with falsely reporting an incident in the third degree and is due back in Family Court later this month.

"The behavior of this student placed the entire High School student population as well as their parents in an emotional and panicked state," Det. Lt. John Nagle said. "This false alarm also placed responding officers and civilians in danger especially while officers were quickly responding to the scene to help the students."
