Garvies Point Museum Unveiling New Exhibit

Forensic geology exhibit will open with live presentation June 23.

A new exhibit showcasing the region's rock and mineral formations is coming to in June, according to a press release from County Executive Edward Mangano's office.

The Forensic Geology exhibit will kick off with a presentation by the museum's geologist, Dr. George Allgaier, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 23. Allgaier will explain how, when and where unusual rock formations form.

The exhibit will feature new donated specimens in addition to the museum's collection and samples taken from the preserve's grounds.

The program is intended for anyone with an interest in geology, at any skill level. The program is included with the museum's general admission, which is $3 for adults and $2 for children between the ages of 5 and 12.

"This new exhibit is important to our community as it showcases the mysteries of forensic geology in a fun and exciting atmosphere,” Mangano said in a statement.

The museum and preserve is part of the county's Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums.
