Glen Cove BOE Elects President, Vice President For 2017-18 School Year

The members of the Glen Cove City School District Board of Education held their annual reorganization meeting on July 13 at Finley Middle School.

Newly elected trustees Monica Alexandris-Miller and Robert Field were sworn in for their three-year terms at the meeting. The group also elected Amy Franklin and Maria Elena Venuto as president and vice president for the 2017-18 school year.

In addition, the board voted to change the day of the week they hold their meetings to Wednesdays, which will be observed unless otherwise noted on the district website.

During the regular meeting that followed, the board accepted several donations, including a $50,000 grant from Nassau County for Connolly School’s playground, as well as a rose bush and plaque from the Glen Cove Educational Administrators Association to be placed at Connolly School as a tribute to recently retired Principal Rosemarie Sekelsky. A $1,000 donation from the Glen Cove Fire Department was accepted for Glen Cove High School’s drum line. The high school was also gifted $1,000 from the school’s PTSA for the purchase of a grill.
