Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club

Wraps Up Another Enriching Summer of Learning and Fun

Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club recently concluded a vibrant and impactful six-week Summer program, engaging youth in hands-on learning, character development, and unforgettable experiences both on and off-site.

With a focus on preventing summer learning loss through its “Brain Gain” curriculum, the program blended academic enrichment with high-energy activities and educational field trips. Each summer, an estimated 43 million children in the U.S. miss out on expanded learning opportunities that could help them stay on track academically. On average, students lose up to two months of math skills during the summer break. The Club’s program is designed to bridge that gap by encouraging learning through reading, writing, STEM exploration, and cooperative play, keeping young minds active, curious, and confident.

Youth participated in engaging STEM challenges like building towers, planes, and sandcastles, sharpening their problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Literacy was woven into each day through themed reading activities and book discussions, while creative and reflective writing flourished through journaling and storytelling that encouraged self-expression.

Environmental education came to life through immersive experiences at the Jones Beach Energy & Nature Center, where members used a beach seine, identified local wildlife, and explored the importance of dune ecosystems. Additional nature-based learning took place at White Post Farms and Planting Fields Arboretum, where kids interacted with animals and explored plant science and conservation.

Cultural and historical adventures included a visit to the Vanderbilt Museum, while a trip to Orkestai Farm introduced youth to sustainable agriculture. Physical wellness and teamwork took center stage at Top Golf and the Kids Day tennis clinic, presented in collaboration with USTA and Christopher Morley Tennis, fostering sportsmanship and inspiring a commitment to active living.

The program was further enriched through strong community partnerships. Assemblyman Charles Lavine visited the Club, offering youth insight into civic leadership, and a special tour of the local Firehouse highlighted the dedication and service of first responders. July’s “Charity of the Month” partner, Rising Tide Natural Market, joined in for a fun and educational Watermelon Day, promoting healthy habits and community-mindedness.

Local businesses, including Burger Boys Bar & Grill and Scoop N Fruit, added extra joy to the summer by supporting the Club through fundraising efforts, engaging the community, members, and their families.

“Our Summer program is more than just a way to keep kids engaged, it’s an opportunity to nurture curiosity, confidence, and a love for learning,” said Executive Director Franca Trunzo. “Thanks to our dedicated staff and generous partners, we created a summer full of enriching experiences and lasting memories for our youth.”

Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club remains committed to creating safe, supportive, and stimulating environments for youth year-round.
