From Vision to Reality: A New Playground for Club Kids

Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club recently celebrated the opening of its brand-new David P. Pearson playground with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that brought together Club members, donors, and community leaders. The joyful event marked the completion of a long-anticipated project to create safe, modern, and inclusive spaces for young members, including the full renovation of the facility’s basketball court.

Made possible through the generosity of committed benefactor Mr. Pearson, and the steadfast support of the Club’s Board of Directors, the installation and upgrades provide Club kids with vibrant, secure areas to play, grow, and stay active. The playground features colorful climbing structures, slides, and interactive play areas designed for all abilities, encouraging creativity, social interaction, and healthy lifestyles, while the freshly resurfaced basketball court offers a safe, inviting environment for friendly competition and skill-building. Club members wasted no time putting both to use, filling the air with laughter and energy.

“This playground is not only a new space full of potential for exploration, imagination, and joy but an investment in our children and our community,” said Franca Trunzo, Executive Director of Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club. “Along with our improved basketball court, our kids can feel safe, build friendships, and develop healthy habits that will last a lifetime. We’re grateful to everyone who helped make this vision a reality, especially Mr. Pearson and our dedicated Board of Directors, whose commitment and guidance were instrumental in bringing these projects to life.”

The Club received recognition of this milestone from the City of Glen Cove, the New York State Assembly, the Nassau County Legislature presented by Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton, in addition to the Glen Cove Chamber of Commerce, who supported and assisted to promote the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The celebration included remarks from Club leadership, Mr. Pearson and local officials, followed by the ceremonial ribbon cutting and plenty of time for children to enjoy the playground and court for the first time. The upgraded spaces are already proving to be favorites among members, adding a vibrant new chapter to the Club’s commitment to fostering growth, wellness, and community connection.
