Glen Cove DECA Members Succeed at Annual Conference

The competition was held in Rochester.

Members of Glen Cove High School’s Distributive Education Club of America excelled at the annual New York DECA State Career Conference and Competition in Rochester, New York on March 3-6.

At the conference, 15 Glen Cove students participated in various competitions in business, marketing and entrepreneurship along with the nearly 2,200 students in attendance. Glen Cove DECA was recognized with four chapter awards at the event, including the Fundraising Award for raising more than $500 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, this year’s New York DECA state charity.

The chapter also received a membership award for having more than a 15 percent increase in membership this year and the Social Media Award in recognition of the chapter most dedicated and connected with the New York DECA social media presence. In addition, Glen Cove was one of two schools out of the 98 in attendance to win the DECA Dedication Award for donating at least $500 to the state charity, holding a community service activity and hosting a chapter social event.

Congratulations to the following students, who won in their categories: Brittany Brown, Public Service Broadcast Advertising, medal winner; Shelbie Farnan, Public Service Broadcast Advertising, medal winner; Samantha Filippone, Job Interview, medal winner; Elizabeth Grieco, Public Service Broadcast Advertising, medal winner and third-place trophy; Lauren Rizzo, Chapter Scrapbook, medal winner and fourth-place trophy; and Dylan Silas, Decision Making – Human Resources, medal winner.

Glen Cove DECA charter adviser Judi Checola congratulated all of the students for their outstanding efforts and accomplishments at the competition.
