Glen Cove Prepares to Celebrate July 4

Glen Cove's Independence Day celebrations will kick off on July 4 with the city's annual Children's Bicycle Parade in the morning and will continue with a free concert and fireworks in Morgan Park later in the day.

Children's Bicycle Parade

The procession begins at 10 a.m. at the  horseshoe, where children and their families are invited to show up at 9:45 with bikes, trikes, scooters and battery-powered vehicles decorated with patriotic dressings.

The parade moves down Forest Avenue to School Street and ends at Village Square, where Mayor Ralph Suozzi will be waiting to host celebrations including music, a singalong of patriotic songs and refreshments.

All participating children are required to wear protective head gear and must have a parent or guardian present.

Concert and Fireworks in Morgan Park

Glen Cove residents are invited to bring blankets and chairs to the Morgan Park Band Shell at 7:30 p.m. to watch The Northwinds Band, led by Glen Cover Helen Bauer. The music will last until 9 p.m.

The fireworks will immediately follow the performance.

In the case of rain, all events will be rescheduled for July 7 and the concert will be held in the middle school's Wunsch Center.

All bags and backpacks will be subject to search for contraband including alcohol and fireworks.

Parking will be available in the park's lot on a first-come, first-serve basis. Parking will be suspended on Germaine Street, Landing Street and McLoughlin Street west of Carpenter Street for the day.

Additional parking will be available in the Landing Elementary School parking lot on McLoughlin Street.

Handicap permit parking will be available in the Morgan Park lot.

Once the Morgan Park lot is full, the gates will be closed until the fireworks display is over.
