UPDATE: Victim ID'd in Glen Cove Fatal Stabbing

The woman was a single mother of a five-year-old girl, police said.

Nassau Police have identified the victim in a fatal stabbing that occurred in Glen Cove Thursday afternoon as Yanira Estella Canjura Martinez.

Police say the homicide occurred Thursday about 3:15 p.m. in Glen Cove.

Detectives say they received a 911 call for an assault in progress in the parking lot of 221 Glen Street, which is next to the Dollar Tree. When Glen Cove Police arrived, they found a 32-year-old woman lying on the ground with multiple stab wounds.

The woman was transported to North Shore University Hospital in Glen Cove, where she was pronounced dead at 4:02 p.m. by hospital staff, police said.

The suspect is described as a male who fled the scene east on Pearsall Ave towards Town Path after the attack, according to Glen Cove Police.

“We believe the victim knew her attacker, and we believe it was domestic in nature,” Glen Cove Det. Lt. John Nagle said, in a statement.

Police say the victim is a single mother of a 5-year old girl, who now has no parents, Det. Capt. John Azzata said at a press conference Friday.

The victim was in the area to pick up her five year old daughter from her babysitter at the time of the attack, Glen Cove Police say.

The investigation is ongoing.
