Glen Cove Youth Bureau Offers Summer Employment, Training

What teens and their families need to know to apply.

Glen Cove teens looking to work this summer would do well to explore opportunities at the city’s Youth Bureau.

Each March, the bureau begins training and preparing for its summer youth employment program. The program has two work components: the Summer Intern program and the Green Team (GT) program, each designed to meet the work experience needs of the participant.

GT members are 14 and 15 year olds, in 8th and 9th grade with no or very little work experience. They work in groups of five or six, under the direction of supervisor, and complete tasks with a variety of city departments and not-for profit organizations in the city, beautifying the community. GT members work in July and August, Monday-Thursday, and complete career training in the afternoons. The topics include: “Money Matters Mondays,” “Total Body Health Tuesdays,” “World of Work Wednesdays” and “Tasting Thursday.” Green Team registration is May 1-5.

Summer Interns begin training in March and conclude in June with resumes and job interviews. Internships are paid during the months of July and August with city departments and for-profit businesses. Students in the internship program focus on the world of work, healthy living, event-planning, fundraising, and community involvement. To be eligible to apply, interns must be 16 by June 1.

All applicants must be City of Glen Cove residents.
