Glen Cove's 10th Annual National Night Out Set For August 1

The block party-style celebration features tours of the police department, children's activities and free food.

Glen Cove joins thousands of cities and towns across the country in thanking the local authorities for all they do during the nationwide National Night Out event.

All residents are encouraged to participate in Glen Cove’s tenth annual National Night Out held on Tuesday, Aug. 1 in downtown Glen Cove for a block party-style celebration.

There will be free tours of the Glen Cove Police Department, TASER and police equipment demonstrations by officers, Operation Safe Child ID badges for kids, an appearance by Mr. Met, entertainment, food and more.

The event will feature a special performance of the National Anthem from area musician Troy Ramey, who was recently a 12 finalist on NBC-TV’s “The Voice.”

This year’s National Night Out special honoree will be Coleen Cole Spinello, a children and community advocate.

Spinello was selected for her commitment to public service and the Glen Cove community. In October 2016, Spinello donated her kidney to a young girl name Mia so she could have a future.

The event is sponsored by the Glen Cove Police Department, PBA, Youth Bureau, Volunteer Fire Department, EMS, The Housing Authority, the Downtown B.I.D., the Printery and local businesses and organizations.
