GLEN COVE, NEW YORK – New York State Assemblymember Charles Lavine (D-North Shore) has issued the following statement regarding the death of former Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy:

“I am extremely saddened to hear of the passing of former Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy. One of the best people that I have ever worked with, she became a fierce advocate for gun safety in the aftermath of one of the worst tragedies in Nassau County’s history, which took the life of her beloved husband and left her son’s changed forever. Thanks to her tireless efforts in Congress, countless lives have been saved. It is with thoughts of her and so many other family members of gun violence victims that I continue the fight to keep our communities safe through strong but sensible gun legislation.”
