LI Man Arrested For Pointing Laser At Police Helicopter, Officials Say

A police helicopter was responding to an unrelated matter when authorities say a man pointed a laser at the pilot.

JERICHO, NY — A Bayville man is facing charges after authorities say he pointed a laser at a Nassau County police helicopter in Jericho.

Around 11:09 p.m. on Saturday, a police helicopter was canvassing the area for an unrelated incident when a green laser pointer began interfering with the pilot's ability to fly. Police say the pilot was able to determine that the light came from the Edgewood Motel at 38 Jericho Turnpike.

The subject, identified by police as 32-year-old Lance Lee, was arrested without incident. No injuries were reported.

Lee has been charged with directing a laser at an aircraft, reckless endangerment, and obstructing governmental administration, according to police.

He is scheduled to appear in First District Court on Friday, Aug. 26.
