LI Man Scammed Out Of $394K; Woman Arrested: Police

A man wired the money to the scammer's account after he believed she was a legitimate vendor he knew, police say.

GLEN COVE, NY — A Bronx woman was arrested Wednesday in connection with a scam that cost a man more than $394K, Nassau police said.

The scam occurred between Jan. 9 and Feb. 12 in Glen Cove, police said.

A man received an email to his business account, from what he believed to be a legitimate vendor known to him, with change of payment instructions, detectives said. Because of current business with this vendor, the man followed the directions provided through email, police said. He wired $394,591.27 to an account belonging to Clari Aleydi Zabala, 24, police said.

Aleydi Zabala was arrested without incident and charged with second-degree grand larceny, police said. She is set to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court, at 99 Main St., Hempstead.

"The Nassau County Police Department urges the community to be on alert and to remind vulnerable family members, friends, and neighbors about potential scams or frauds," the department stated.
