Crossing Guard Hit By Car, In Critical Condition: Police

GLEN COVE, NY — A Nassau County crossing guard is in critical condition after he was hit by a car driven by an elderly man in Glen Cove on Thursday morning, police said.

According to police, Carlos Vasquez, 56, of Glen Cove, was guiding people across the street on Dosoris Lane, near Maple Avenue, just before 9 a.m. when he was hit by a white SUV.

Vasquez was airlifted to a hospital, and was in critical condition. The driver of the SUV, an 82-year-old man from Bayville, remained at the scene.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
