Three candidates are on the ballot for the Nassau County Executive race.
Here's what you need to know before heading out to the polls on Tuesday.

Candidates:
- Jack Martins— Republican candidate
- Laura Curran— Democratic candidate
- Cassandra Lems— Green Party candidate

Martins:
Martins served the 7th district on the New York State Senate from January 2011 to December 2016, representing the Town of North Hempstead and portions of the towns of Hempstead and Oyster Bay. Before that, he served as the mayor of the Village of Mineola from 2003 to 2010. "The son of Portuguese immigrants, Jack attended Chaminade High School, graduated from American University and received his Juris Doctor from St. John's University. Jack, his wife Paula and their daughters live in Old Westbury," his campaign website says. Read more about Martins here.
Curran:
From the League of Women Voters: Curran is currently serving her second term as a Democrat Nassau County Legislator, representing Nassau Legislative District 5. Her previous elected office was on the Baldwin School Board for 3 ½ years, including one year as president. In her earlier career, Laura was a reporter for the NY Daily News and NY Post and also taught journalism at SUNY Purchase. Laura earned a BA in liberal arts from Sarah Lawrence College. She now lives in Baldwin with her husband and three daughters. Read more about Curran here.
Lems:
Lems, 61, of Herricks, is an intellectual property paralegal and a Green Party state committee member, Newsday reports. She ran for state senate in 2014 and county legislature in 2015. Lems is the only candidate who does not have a corporate sponsor. Read more about Lems here.
