On Sunday, April 27, 2025, 3 pm at the North Shore High School Theater, The Northwinds Symphonic Band will present their annual Spring program - Concert Band Classics and Virtuoso Artistry. Admission is free.

Conductors Helen P. Bauer, Brandon Bromsey, and Maîtresse de Cérémonie Melinda Edwards invite you to enjoy a musical experience featuring musicians from the band who will impress with their virtuosity and captivate with their musicality.

Featured soloists are Emily Chang on horn playing Strauss’ lyrical Concerto No. 1, and our talented clarinet section, whose fingers will fly through Leroy Anderson’s sparkling Clarinet Candy. Accompanied by the Northwind’s small wind ensemble, flutists Claudia Beeby and Concetta Stevens will perform Doppler’s Andante and Rondo, a piece that begins with an expressive first movement and ends with a rollicking rondo.

In addition, the band will showcase its own artistry and musical skill with a program of classic compositions for concert band. Mannin Veen, a tone poem, is based on four folk songs from the Isle of Man, and Suite of Old American Dances is a rhythmically complex but entertaining work based on dances from the early 20th century.

Other programmed pieces include scores by Leonard Bernstein, Edward Elgar, and Brian Balmages.

The North Shore High School Theater is located at 450 Glen Cove Avenue, Glen Head, NY 11545, and is wheelchair accessible.
