The Northwinds Symphonic Band’s Annual Salute to Veterans
An Afternoon of Music Honoring Service and Sacrifice

On Sunday, November 9, 2025, at 3 pm at the Wunsch Arts Center, The Northwinds Symphonic Band will present an afternoon of inspiring music entitled A Tribute to Our Veterans. Admission is free.
Under the direction of Conductors Helen P. Bauer and Brandon Bromsey, the band is proud to present a musical program in honor of Veterans Day and to celebrate all the men and women of the United States Armed Forces.
The program will feature marches, including March of the Women Marines, composed expressly for The U.S. Marine Corps Women’s Reserve in 1943. The band will also acknowledge each division of the military with Armed Forces Medley.
Other program highlights include The Light Eternal, a work created to recognize four U.S. Army chaplains who lost their lives in World War II, as well as the patriotic Battle Hymn of the Republic and Variations on ‘America’, both written by important American composers. Vocalists Karen Murphy and Joe Stroppel will join the band to lend their lyrical talents to favorites by Harold Arlen and Irving Berlin.

In addition to the musical program paying tribute to all veterans, there will be a special tribute to veteran Scott Whitting. Whitting, a U.S. Army Special Forces veteran of the Vietnam War, was recipient of the Soldier’s Medal and the Bronze Star, and held the rank of Major in the New York Guard. In addition to his military service, he has long served the community as a lifetime member of the Glenwood Fire Company. Along with his other honors, he has been named the recipient of the Tribute & Honor Foundation’s Legacy Award, which will be presented at the organization’s Annual Awards Gala in February at the Crescent Beach Club.
The band and the Tribute & Honor Foundation, a sponsor of the concert, will join James E. Donahue VFW Post 347 Commander Howard Stillwagon and Locust Valley Howard Van Wagner American Legion Post 962 Commander Chad Ryals in honoring Scott Whitting at the concert.
