I-495 Crash, LIRR Service Changes: LI Patch AM Traffic Digest

LONG ISLAND — Good morning, Long Island Patch readers! It's Friday, Aug. 26 with a high of 86 degrees and a low of 70.

Here are the latest traffic updates that will impact your Friday morning commute:

ON THE ROAD...

NASSAU COUNTY

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., construction on the Southern State Parkway will shut down one lane of traffic in both directions between Exit 18 and Exit 17S

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., construction will shut down one lane of traffic in both directions between Bellmore Avenue and Wantagh Avenue on NY 27

SUFFOLK COUNTY

As of 8:16 a.m., a crash on eastbound NY 27 may be blocking a lane in the area of Exit 66

As of 7:56 a.m., a crash on eastbound I-495 is blocking the right lane and shoulder between Exit 56 and Exit 57

Construction on NY 347 will close one lane in both directions between Davis Avenue (Brookhaven) and Jayne Boulevard (Brookhaven), from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Roadwork on NY 111 will shut down one lane in both directions between Calebs Path (Smithtown) and I-495 LIE (Islip), from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., roadwork on NY 27 will shut down one westbound lane between Exit 55 and Exit 53

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., construction on NY 112 will shut down one lane in both directions between I-495 South Service Road (Suffolk) and NY 27 South Service Road (Suffolk)

Construction on eastbound NY 454 will shut down one lane between New Highway (Smithtown) and Old Town Road (Smithtown), from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

ON THE LIRR...

As of 8:54 a.m., trains are running on or close to schedule on all LIRR branches, except the Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma lines.

From 5 a.m. to 10 a.m., eastbound trains will skip Mineola. This is a scheduled service change for both lines.

Bus service will be available between Mineola and Hicksville.

For service to Mineola, remain on the train to Hicksville and transfer to a bus back to Mineola. If you're coming from Mineola, take the bus to Hicksville to connect with your train. The bus will leave up to 30 minutes earlier than the train schedule, according to the LIRR.

If you normally park at the Mineola Intermodal Center, consider parking at the Westbury North garage instead. The LIRR says it will be waiving the parking fee and adding Westbury stops to some trains during peak hours.
