From Salsa to Merengue: SonMilanes at Downtown Sounds

Glen Cove’s rich culture was proudly displayed at Downtown Sounds with a Latin music performance by SonMilanes. According to the Census Reporter, 34% of Glen Cove’s population is Hispanic, the second largest racial/ethnic group in the city behind white. Everyone was up out of their seats to move their hips along to the music.
SonMilanes put on a vibrant show, performing the best of Latin music, from the classics to contemporary hits. In the universe of Latin sounds SonMilanes creates the perfect mix: salsa, merengue, son Cubano, cumbia, bachata, Latin jazz, bossa nova, bolero, and much more.
Our Teen Showcase opener was automatic, systematic, hydromatic why it was Jazz Hands Children’s Theatre performing songs from their production of Grease.

Glen Cove’s culture is reflected in all there is to do Downtown. During the concerts families run and play together, dance and can learn about local businesses at vendor booths on School Street. Restaurants line the town with flavors from Italian, Mexican, and Japanese to Thai, Chinese, Nepalese, and diverse Latin American flavors like Peruvian, Colombian, and Salvadoran.
The community comes together for Downtown Sounds every Friday in July and August at 7:30 p.m. in Village Square. Friday August 15 will hold a performance by JD Leonard’s Decades of Country with a special guest appearance by Richie Cannata.
