Timeline Of Thunderstorms on LI For Today, Thursday Released

The National Weather Service says Long Island may see thunderstorms the next two days. Here is when the storms are expected.

LONG ISLAND, NY – The chance for thunderstorms will increase beginning late this afternoon and continues throughout the evening and overnight hours, according to the National Weather Service. There is also a chance for showers and thunderstorms on Thursday too but the chances are a bit less than today's.

The National Weather Service says: "There may be a passing shower early this morning, but conditions should remain mainly dry. The chances for showers and thunderstorms increase late this afternoon. These storms may be associated with locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds. Temperatures will be seasonably warm, with highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s. Lower 70s are expected along the Twin Forks of Long Island and southeastern Connecticut.

"It will also become increasingly humid as a southwesterly flow brings in a more humid airmass. The chances for showers and thunderstorms increase overnight as the front continues moving east, with the bulk of the rainfall falling over Long Island and Connecticut. Warm and humid conditions will continue. Lows will be in the middle to upper 60s.

"The chance for showers and thunderstorms continue for Thursday, but will not be as high as Wednesday as the cold front moves through, pushing offshore late in the day. This will bring in a less humid air mass into Thursday night. Friday will be dry with seasonably warm temperatures," the National Weather Service says.

But the good news is that the weekend looks spectacular with plenty of sunshine and temps in the mid to upper 70s.
