Wanted: Substitute Bus Drivers In Glen Cove

The City of Glen Cove is looking for two part-time substitute bus drivers.

Two positions are currently open and the hourly rate for this job is $17.

To serve as a bus driver, the following requirements must be met:

• Have a New York State Driver’s License Class CDL-B with passenger endorsement.
• Medical qualifications including drug testing and background checks.
• Annual reviews including driving record reviews, road tests, written/oral tests and medical exams as well as potential random drug and alcohol tests.

Work responsibilities include:

• Operating a bus or minivan on a regular schedule or on special occasions
• Checking the vehicle
• Reporting any operational defects
• Encouraging the use of seatbelts
• Assisting elderly passengers
• Maintaining and fueling the vehicle
• Attending staff meetings
• Keeping the vehicle clean

All prospective drivers must:

• Have a good knowledge of driving safety
• The ability to operate a bus or van under all road conditions
• Establish and maintain a rapport with the elderly
• Understand and follow simple oral and written directions
• Operate a lift for wheelchairs
• Be dependable and capable of the physical demands of the position
