Woman Escapes From Driver Fleeing Officer On Long Island: Police

Held against her will, she escaped unharmed in Roslyn after the driver sped away then drove Honda Accord into police car, cops say

GLEN COVE, NY — A woman allegedly held against her will inside of a sedan that sped away from an officer and struck a police car, escaped to safety unharmed on Monday, Glen Cove police said.

The department was notified a woman was being held against her will while inside a 2017 black Honda Accord at around 12:15 p.m. and when an officer found it on Glen Cove Avenue then tried to get the driver to pull over, the driver refused and sped away, according to police.

The driver then drove north on Glen Cove Road and west onto Northern Boulevard before intentionally striking a police car at the intersection of Searingtown Road in Manhasset, police said.

The woman escaped unharmed from the vehicle in Roslyn, according to police.

Det. Lt. John Nagle said that once officers confirmed the woman was safely out of the vehicle the pursuit was ended.

The officer involved in the crash with the sedan was not injured, according to Nagle.

The department's detective division is investigating, he said.
