Donald Trump's Hair Makes an Appearance in Red Hook

If you missed the flaxen "Trump Hut," don't despair — it may return with the help of a fundraising campaign on Kickstarter.

RED HOOK, BROOKLYN — Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump may not be burning up the polls in Red Hook this election season, but his hair is making news — or, more specifically, a hut of his hair.

Marketing experts Tommy Noonan and Douglas Cameron, both of ad firm DCX, created the "Trump Hut" for an exhibit called "Gut Rehab," curated by artist Rachel Owens, as reported by DNAinfo. (The Guardian adds that sculptor Roxana Casillas was also instrumental to the project.)

The exhibit ran for about a month at 351 Van Brunt St., after which the hut — reportedly made from hula skirts — made a brief appearance on the streets of Red Hook last weekend.

“The inside of the Trump Hut is a total luxury experience,” Noonan explained to The Guardian. “There is an extravagant ornamental rug from Ikea, champagne buckets, stools and solar powered lights.”

But before you get the wrong idea: the work was indeed an anti-Trump statement.

“It’s a protest piece on how the 1% lives versus the rest of us,” Casillas said, according to the British paper. “When President Hoover was in office, there were the Hooverville towns where everyone lived in tents, and if Trump wins we’re all going to wind up living in Trump Huts.”

Noonan and Cameron are reportedly looking to expand the Trump Hut concept with the help of a Kickstarter campaign. The effort hasn't appeared online yet, but Patch will update this post if we learn more.

And if you were looking for even more Trump-related neighborhood news: Brooklyn Paper reports that someone threw a rock through the glass door of Trump backer Joshua Ramos, who lives in Gowanus on 11th Street, while Ramos and his family slept.

The perpetrator, who reportedly lashed out on June 24, also tore up one of three Trump signs on display, Ramos said.

“You know there’s lots of liberal people around here — they got drunk and did what they had to do,” Ramos said to the paper. “I’ve got my [U.S.] flag up — I’m surprised they didn’t tear it down or burn it.”
