Gowanus Motorcycle Club Building, Site Of NYPD Raid, Is Up For Sale

Twenty-four members of the club were arrested during a raid a week ago.

GOWANUS, NY — The building that serves as the headquarters for the "God's Only Demons" motorcycle club — where 24 people were arrested Feb. 18 during an NYPD raid — is currently up for sale and could force the club to find a new home.

The real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield is handling the sale of 326 Butler St., where the bikers are located, bundled with the attached unit at 326 Butler.

The asking price for the two units is $4.25 million, according to a property listing. The listing says that the buildings "will be delivered vacant upon sale." The listing does not mention the biker club currently occupying space in one of the buildings, but a listing photo shows the club's banner hanging above the front door, plus a sign on the front door that says "Members only. Must show ID."

"As the Gowanus neighborhood continues to evolve, 324-326 Butler Street is well positioned to benefit from continued development of the surrounding area," the listing says.

It's unclear exactly how long "God's Only Demons" have been set up in the industrial Gowanus space, but it has been a regular target of the city.

Nineteen of the 24 people arrested on Feb. 18 had outstanding warrants. Of the other five, three were let go due to "insufficient evidence."

During the raid, authorities found a .380 pistol, a 9 millimeter handgun, a .380 handgun, an "inoperable tommy gun" automatic rifle, a 6 millimeter BB gun and "assorted ammo," police said, along with alleged cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

In 2014, the city called the club a “public nuisance” that “endangers the safety or health of members of the surrounding community" in a lawsuit that tried to shut it down, according to the New York Post.

The lawsuit cited a 2012 murder outside the club and a 2013 hospitalization of a 16-year-old boy who was served alcohol at the location, the Post reported.

A 2014 DNA Info profile of the club, though, included neighbors who said the place was harmless and even hosts events such as baby showers.

"You drive by a door that says 'God's Only Demons' and you'd think there's child porn and heroin going on inside, but it's not that," a nearby business owner told DNA Info. "They're good guys just doing their thing."
