New Gowanus Bar And Restaurant To Offer Classy Yet 'Casual' Fare

The former owners of Two Boots Brooklyn are behind the Third Avenue venture.

GOWANUS, BROOKLYN — The former owners of the now-shuttered Two Boots Brooklyn are working to open a new restaurant at 491 3rd Ave. Andy Wandzilak and his wife Piper told Community Board 6's licensing committee on Monday that the venture, tentatively known as Big Chief Brooklyn (though they said that could change) will be a restaurant and bar with an enclosed backyard service area.

Wandzilak said the business will be "a very casual neighborhood restaurant," and that he'll also run an occasional catering business out of the space.

A draft menu shared with the board (embedded below) features "noshes" like "Avocado Toast" and "Fried Pork Belly Mac 'N Cheese Balls," sandwiches, including a "Blackened Catfish Po-Boy," and plates to share.

The outdoor extension will be a permanent structure that will prevent noise from escaping into the community, Wandzilak said, adding that the restaurant will mostly feature recorded music, though small jazz or folk bands could be brought in on occasion.

Wandzilak said he's aiming to open by May 1.
