Tourists Offered 'Graffiti Tours' By Sleek New Gowanus Hotel

Plus a "speakeasy-style coffee bar" and smart-home tech in every room.

GOWANUS, BROOKLYN — A new sleek, boutique hotel in Gowanus will open later this year and feature, among other amenities, complimentary Citi Bike rides, "graffiti tours" and smart-home technology in every room.

Curbed NY shared the details of the new Baltic Huis hotel, located on Baltic Street between Bond and Nevins street. (Patch has reached out to parent company Choice Hotels for more information, and we'll update this post if we hear back.)

The hotel will also feature a "speakeasy-style coffee bar," according to Curbed, that seems to confirm every stereotype about trendy coffee shops in hipster Brooklyn. It was also hand out maps of neighborhood graffiti that visitors really shouldn't miss.

Via Curbed, quoting from a press release:

Neon signs will point the way to the hotel’s hidden spaces; a celebration of a lost history found. One of those hidden spaces is a subterranean coffee shop serving impeccably turned out coffees, lattes and cortados, vital to the start of any New Yorker’s day. With the whisper of a secret Dutch password, other treats such as rare Japanese whiskeys “might” be available - paying homage to the city’s lingering speakeasy spirit.

Every room will feature smart-home technology such as Amazon Alexas and "smart phones," according to Curbed. A back yard serves as an "adult playground with neighborhood cookouts and pig roasts, community garden parties and more."

Solar power will light up hallways and warm up shower water. Guests will get Citi Bike passes and have access to neighborhood "graffiti tours," according to Curbed.
