Red Hook Houses Man Shot Dead in Front of His Home: NYPD
Jahiem Smallwood was found outside 75 Bush St. on Tuesday with multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

RED HOOK, BROOKLYN — A 23-year-old Red Hook Houses resident was fatally shot in front of his home Tuesday night, police said.
Following a 911 call, police found Jahiem Smallwood outside 75 Bush St. with gunshot wounds to his lower torso and body, according to the NYPD.

He was taken to Methodist Hospital, where he died on July 20.
Police had made no arrests in the case as of Thursday morning and were still investigating the shooting.

Smallwood’s death stands out in a police precinct that has seen significant drops in crime rates so far this year.
According to official police statistics, through July 10, major crimes were collectively down more than 23 percent in the 76th Precinct, which patrols Red Hook, compared to the same period in 2015.
Five shootings and seven victims had been recorded during that period, compared to seven shootings and nine victims during the same period last year.
